WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP TO HELP BEREAVED CHILDREN
Family Care, in partnership with Faith in Families, and Macmillan Cancer Support, launched 'Spiral', a Nottinghamshire Children's Bereavement Service, on 30 October 2008 at Nottingham Castle.
Staff of the three organisations thoroughly enjoyed working together to create a wonderful atmosphere for the children and families attending the launch on a cold, but bright and sunny day. Activities provided included a drumming session in the Bandstand (loud, but very therapeutic!), dancing with colourful streamers, and creative artwork. There was great excitement when the raffle took place and the prizes included toys, vouchers and family tickets to a pantomime.
Fifty-three ribbons had been tied onto the branches of a tree in the Castle grounds, to symbolise the number of children who lose a parent each day in the UK, and families were invited to add their own ribbons and to give their messages of support and good wishes for the future success of the Bereavement Service, 'Spiral'.
Earlier in the year, a group of local children and young people worked with professionals at Jupiter Design to produce a logo for the children's bereavement service 'Spiral'. After a creative session where the children and young people produced their individual logo designs, the group voted on a number of finalists. Jupiter developed these further and the logo chosen to represent the service, a character given the name 'Cyril', has become the face of 'Spiral'. Jupiter Design congratulated Cyril's young designer, Hannah, and awarded her a framed poster of her winning design.
